I was in the doctor’s office a couple of days ago and he was talking about some friends of his. Suddenly he changed the subject and said “I never did get that right, is it ‘him and I’ or ‘me and him’? It’s one of those things I never learned in school.”
I got to cogitating over the matter later that day. When I was in High School, the proper way was to say “he and I,” or “John and I,” but over the years that all changed. It is now ok to say “me and him” or “John and me.” I guess that’s why they call English a “living” language, its still growing.
Given what I see with texting, the language is about to undergo an enormous change. It won’t be long before any spelling or usage that is understandable will be proper. Also, when I was in school you never ended a sentence with a preposition but now its ok to say “Where you at”?
When I dropped my friend off after golf yesterday with the promise to return in the afternoon to help him clean the oranges from his trees I said “C u, I will b by l8r.”
